Chandos Records

An independent classical record label based in Colchester, UK, and founded in 1979 by Brian Couzens. The label, currently run by the founder's son, Ralph Couzens, features orchestral, choral and chamber music by lesser-known British composers, and also early music and film scores. There are also more than eighty recordings on the company's Opera in English label.

In 2005, Chandos was the first label to offer MP3 downloads from its website. The company now operates The Classical Shop, with downloads available from many other labels, some of which are not available in physical format in the UK.

The company has recorded many big names, including Thomas Allen, Barry Banks, Christine Brewer, Rebecca Evans, Bruce Ford,  Lesley Garrett, Horacio Gutiérrez, Richard Hickox, Neeme Järvi, Simon Keenlyside, Tasmin Little, Charles Mackerras, Alan Opie and Julian Lloyd Webber.
