Peter Seiffert

German tenor Peter Seiffert was born on 4 January 1954 into a musical family in Düsseldorf, where he studied at the Robert Schumann Hochschule.

He began his career in 1978 with Deutsche Oper am Rhein and then became a member of Deutsche Oper Berlin in 1980, where he sang until 2019. In 1990 he became known internationally due to his interpretation of Lohengrin in Berlin. He later sang Tristan there, and appeared on a 2003 recording in the title role of Tannhäuser with Daniel Barenboim conducting.

He also sang at Bavarian State Opera, at the Bayreuth Festival, at Covent Garden in London, at the opera house in Nagoya, Japan, at New York Metropolitan Opera, at the Salzburg Festival, at Vienna State Opera and at Zürich Opera.

Peter Seiffert died in Schleedorf, Salzburg, Austria on 14 April 2025, aged seventy-one, following a long illness.
