Russian ballet dancer, choreographer and teacher Valery Stepanovich Lagunov was born in Moscow on 2 June 1942. He studied with Aleksei Ermolaev at the Moscow State Choreographic Academy. Later he studied at the Russian University of Theatre Arts.
He joined the Bolshoi Ballet in 1962. He danced in Cinderella, Giselle, Icarus, Love for Love, Mozart and Salieri, Nutcracker, Scriabiniana, The Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake.
From 1996 he worked as a choreographer at the Bolshoi and also taught ballet.
Valery Lagunov died in Moscow on 18 December 2023, aged eighty-one.
