New Zealand composer, pianist, teacher and writer Gillian Margaret Bibby was born in Lower Hutt, Wellington on 31 August 1945. Her teachers included Douglas Lilburn, Mauricio Kagel, Aloys Kontarsky and Karlheinz Stockhausen.
She worked mostly in New Zealand, was active in several music-related organisations and received several prizes for her compositions.
Her output includes piano and chamber music, works for tape, vocal and choral music, orchestral and wind band works, plus the children's opera Sanctuary of Spirits.
Gillian Bibby died in Wellington on 7 August 2023, aged seventy-seven.
