Polish pianist and teacher Stefan Wojtas was born in Zakopane on 5 October 1943 and studied piano with Ludwik Stefański.
He performed in Poland, the Soviet Union, Sweden, UK and USA, but had trouble overcoming performance stress.
He had a parallel career as a teacher, at Kraków's Secondary State Music School Władysław Żeleński, at the Academy of Music in Kraków and at the Academy of Music Feliks Nowowiejski in Bydgoszcz. Many of his students won national and international piano competitions.
He founded the Pro Musica Bona Foundation to help talented young musicians from Małopolska and was on the juries of many national and international piano competitions.
Stefan Wojtas died on 27 May 2024 in Kraków, aged eighty.
