British cellist Denis Vigay was born in London in 1926. He studied with Cedric Sharpe at the Royal Academy of Music, and then worked as principal cello in a series of high profile groups: the Sadler's Wells Opera Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra and then the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields, whilst also working extensively as a freelancer. He taught at the Royal Academy of Music and was cello tutor to the National Youth Strings Academy.
Denis Vigay died on 27 June 2015, aged eighty-nine.
