French violinist Jacques Thibaud was born in Bordeaux on 27 September 1880 and studied with his father before entering the Paris Conservatoire. In addition to his work as a soloist, he played chamber music, notably with Pau Casals and Alfred Cortot. With Marguerite Long he established a competition for violinists and pianists.
Thibaud died in a plane crash in the French Alps on 1 September 1953.
