German musicologist Hermann Mendel was born 6 August 1834. Mendel is known for the first seven volumes of the great twelve volume dictionary Musikalisches Conversations-Lexikon, dating from 1870-1883.
Mendel died on 26 October 1876, aged forty-two, probably in Berlin.
