English organist, conductor, composer and teacher Simon Lindley was born on 10 October 1948 in London, where he studied at the Royal College of Music.
From 1969 he made his living as an organist in and around London, playing, recording and teaching.
From 1975 until 2017 he worked in Leeds, for most of this time serving as organist and master of the music at Leeds Minster, director of the Choir of Leeds Parish Church, City Organist of Leeds, senior lecturer at Leeds Polytechnic and in various other posts. He was senior assistant music officer for Leeds City Council (1987-2011), conductor of Sheffield Bach Society (2009-23) and Doncaster Choral Society (2010-23).
As a composer he wrote anthems and organ works, edited choral music and arranged carols.
Simon Lindley died on 25 February 2025, aged seventy-six.
