Swiss composer, conductor, teacher and administrator Rudolf Kelterborn was born on 3 September 1931 in Basel. He studied there and also in Detmold, Salzburg and Zürich. His teachers included Boris Blacher.
Kelterborn wrote chamber music, five operas, orchestral music and vocal works. His music has been performed in Europe, Japan and the USA. He taught in Germany and Switzerland, and was invited to lecture in China, England, Eastern Europe, Japan and the USA. From 1974 until 1980 he was head of the music division of Swiss German radio.
Rudolf Kelterborn died in Basel on 24 March 2021, aged eighty-nine.
