Award-winning French-Canadian pianist Louise Bessette was born in Montreal on 20 June 1959 and began studying piano at the age of five. Her teachers have included Eugene List and Yvonne Loriod.
In 1986 she won first prize at the Concours International de Musique Contemporaine in Saint-Germain-en-Yaye, In 2001 she became a member of the Order of Canada and in 2005 she became an Officer of the National Order of Quebec. In 2009 the Canadian Music Centre named her Ambassador of Canadian Music.
