Daniel Christopher Rowe was born on 3 April 1956 into a family that would eventually number nine kids. He earned a degree from North Seattle Community College. He apparently liked the college, because he found a job there and remained for forty-two years! Dan was a fixture at North Seattle College and was much loved by his co-workers, who described him as humble, kind, patient, genuine and open-hearted.
Early on, Dan became intensely interested in music. He grew up in a house with several budding musicians and taught himself to play guitar. He enjoyed many jam sessions with brothers and friends over the years, becoming proficient at his instrument. Dan was constantly seeking out new kinds of music from around the world and always learning. Later on he began composing, and created hundreds of unique songs. You can hear some of his music at his own homepage, MIDI Mandragora and at the Cadenza MIDI Diary.
Dan's musical tastes were wide-ranging: he enjoyed music by Frank Zappa, the Beatles, Bob Dylan, ABBA, The Grateful Dead, Leo Kottke, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Igor Stravinsky, Béla Bartók, Ludwig van Beethoven, Bernard Herrmann, Ennio Morricone, Nino Rota, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Eric Dolphy, Charles Mingus, Nick Lowe, Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Leon Russell, Raymond Scott, Danny Elfman, Johnny Winter, Steve Vai, Hermeto Pascoal and East Indian music. He also enjoyed reading books on philosophy, truth and the human condition.
Sadly, Dan Rowe died on 23 January 2021, aged sixty-four.
