Clara Butt

English contralto Clara Butt, born in Sussex on 1 February 1873, was known especially for foreign tours of ballad programmes with her husband as accompanist. She was the first to sing Edward Elgar's Sea Pictures (1899 Norwich Festival). She died in Oxford on 23 January 1936.
