French Chilean composer Jorge Arriagada was born on 20 August 1943 in Santiago, Chile, where he studied composition and orchestral conducting at the National Conservatory of Music. Later, on a scholarship, he studied in Paris with Max Deutsch. He was also able to study with Pierre Boulez, Olivier Messiaen and Pierre Schaeffer.
He worked in electronic music, and taught composition. Later, from 1977 onwards, he worked mostly in the film industry, writing music for more than a-hundred-and-sixty films, and is best known for his longterm collaboration with experimental Chilean film director Raoul Ruiz. Arriagada's music spans the genres of classical, contemporary, electroacoustic and jazz.
Jorge Arriagada died on 8 October 2024, aged eighty-one.
