Max (with a capital M) usually refers to a person's given name, such as the composers Max Bruch, Max Heinecke, Max Reger and Max Steiner. It can also refer to a common nickname for the British composer Peter Maxwell Davies. When used with a lower case m, it will probably be an abbreviation of the word maximum.
