Teodor Zgureanu

Moldovan choral conductor and composer Teodor Zgureanu was born in Condrătești on 24 May 1939. He studied with Lidia Axionova at the 'Gavriil Musicescu' Conservatory in Chișinău.

He was artistic director and principal choirmaster of Corul 'Moldova' from 1976 until 1987. From 1987 he was head of the choral conducting department of the Chișinău Art Institute.

His output as a composer consisted mostly of choral music, but there's also a 1998 opera Decebal, two orchestral poems Mărire Burebista and Lumină din Lumină (Light from Light), and a Rhapsody for brass band.

He died in Chișinău on 6 July 2024, aged eighty-five.
