Greek-born stage director Konstantinos 'Dino' Yannopoulos was born in Athens on 15 December 1919.
He achieved a career which lasted half a century and spanned may different countries. He studied in Vienna, Leipzig and Salzburg, founded the Athens Music Festival (1955) and the Corfu International Festival (1980), was artistic director of the Vancouver International Festival, principal director of the Metropolitan Opera, New York, USA (1945-77) and director and then artistic director of the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, USA (1977-89).
Dino Yannopoulos died in Philadelphia on 6 April 2003, aged eighty-three.
