Portuguese composer José António Carlos de Seixas was born in Coimbra on 11 June 1704 into a musical family.
He worked as a cathedral organist and later as court harpsichordist and organist in Lisbon.
His keyboard compositions demonstrate several different styles - Baroque, galant and Empfindsamkeit - and show the influence of French, German and Italian composers.
Carlos Seixas died in Lisbon on 25 August 1742, aged thirty-eight. Much of his huge output was destroyed in the 1755 Lisbon earthquake.
