Award-winning Australian ballet dancer and executive Gailene Stock was born in Ballarat, Victoria on 28 January 1946, training in Australia and then at the Royal Ballet Upper School in London UK. She danced professionally for sixteen years, and was a principal artist with Australian Ballet, the National Ballet of Canada and Royal Winnipeg Ballet.
She became Director of the National Theatre Ballet School in Victoria, Australia and then took on the same role with the Australian Ballet School.
She was director of the Royal Ballet School in London from 1999 until her death from cancer on 29 April 2014, aged sixty-eight.
