Moldovan violinist and teacher Sofia Propișcean was born in Chișinău on 2 November 1950 into the family of violinist Naum Propișcean and pianist Gita Strahilevich. She studied in Chișinău and at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory.
She worked for the Kalinin Regional Philharmonic and the Moldovan Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting, and was head of the string department at Nizhny Novgorod State Glinka Conservatory. She also worked with the Soloists of Nizhny Novgorod ensemble.
Sofia Propișcean died in Nizhny Novgorod, central Russia on 13 February 2024, aged seventy-three.
