Townsville

Townsville, Australia's largest tropical city, established in 1864, is on the north-eastern coast, two hundred miles from Cairns and nine hundred miles from Brisbane. The city has a lively arts scene, with its own orchestra and dance company, and is host to the annual Australian Festival of Chamber Music. Townsville's Civic Theatre is an important performing arts venue in the North Queensland region.

There's more information about the city on Malcolm Tattersall's 'Townsville' page.
