American cellist and teacher Joel Krosnick was born in New Haven, Connecticut on 3 April 1941 into a musical family, where he had played most of the classical and Romantic piano trio repertoire with his mother and brother by the time he was twelve. At Columbia University, his lifelong passion for contemporary music was kindled, resulting in many performances and recordings.
His more than forty year international career included membership of the Juilliard String Quartet (1974-2016).
He also taught throughout his career, in Iowa, Massachusetts and at Juilliard.
Joel Krosnick died of pancreatic cancer at his home in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, on 15 April 2025, aged eighty-four.
