Douglas Knehans

American/Australian composer Douglas Knehans was born in St Louis, Missouri, USA in 1957. He studied at the Australian National University, at Queens College with Thea Musgrave and at Yale with Jacob Druckman.

Best known for his orchestral compositions, he first became known for his 1990 opera The Ascension of Robert Flau and his collaboration with director Barrie Kosky for the Opera Australia production of this work.

He lives in Cincinnati, Ohio, is the director of the record company Ablaze Records and is the Norman Dinnerstein Professor of Composition Scholar Cincinnati University's College-Conservatory of Music.
