Swedish composer Åke Oskar Verner Hermanson was born in Mollösund on 16 June 1923.
He wrote four symphonies, leaving a fifth incomplete when he died in Stockholm on 8 August 1996, aged seventy-three. His output also includes instrumental, chamber, vocal and choral music, and he made settings of poems by Pär Lagerkvist, Ebba Lindqvist, Karl Vennberg and Anna Greta Wide.
