Christopher Gibbons

English composer, organist and teacher Christopher Gibbons, son of the composer Orlando Gibbons, was born in 1615 in London and baptised at St Margaret's Westminster on 22 August. He became organist of Winchester Cathedral, but the civil war caused the termination of his position. He moved to London, remaining there when Cromwell was in control, and later, with the return of Charles II to the throne, Gibbons became Organist of the Chapel Royal. He died in 1676 and was buried in the cloisters of Westminster Abbey on 24 October of that year.
