Franco-Flemish organist, composer and teacher Stanislas Deriemaeker was born at Nekerke in the Flemish Ardennes on 26 January 1932. He studied at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent.
His career as an organist began in 1960 at St Joseph's Antwerp. In 1961 he was awarded the Belgian government's Virtuosity Prize for organ. In 1962 he was appointed organist of the Cathedral of Our Lady in Antwerp. In 1995 and 1996 he served as Cultural Ambassador of Flanders, appointed by the Flemish Government. He gave about a thousand concerts as an organist, at home and abroad, and his output as a composer was mainly for organ.
He taught at Ghent Conservatory, at the Royal Flemish Conservatory in Antwerp, at the Lemmens Institute and at the Catholic University of Leuven. He served on the juries of international organ competitions.
Stanislas Deriemaeker died on 11 July 2024, aged ninety-two.
