Australian bass-baritone Robert Allman was born on 8 June 1927 in Melbourne. After study in Paris, he sang at Covent Garden for three seasons, then worked at various opera houses in Germany. After appearing on a tour of Australia with the Sutherland-Williamson Opera Company, he took a job as a principal artist with Opera Australia, where he stayed for the rest of his career, appearing many times alongside Joan Sutherland.
Honours included Officer of the Order of the British Empire (1980) and Member of the Order of Australia (1992).
Robert Allman's death was announced on 4 December 2013.
