Michel Arignon

French clarinettist, clarinet developer/tester and teacher Michel Arignon was born in 1948 and studied in Paris at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique, where he later taught from 1989.

With Pierre Boulez he co-founded the Ensemble Intercontemporain in 1976.

He played with the Orchestre de l'Opéra national de Paris and founded the O Messiaen Quartet.

From 1985 he worked for the French wind instrument manufacturer Buffet Crampon, developing and testing new clarinets. In particular he helped to create the Festival (1987) and Tosca (2003) clarinets.

Michel Arignon died in La Rochelle on 12 March 2025, aged seventy-six.
