Claudio Arrau was born in Chile on 6 February 1903. One of the distinctive pianists of the 20th century, he studied in Berlin and launched his career from here. His repertory was wide and included the keyboard works of Bach, although he is best known for his Mozart and romantics down to Brahms. He died in Austria on 9 June 1991.
