Review of Edgar Moreau - Weinberg, Dutilleux Cello Concertos published on 22 August 2023
Edgar Moreau, cello
WDR Sinfonieorchester
Andris Poga, conductor
Mieczysław Weinberg (1919-1996):
Concerto for Cello and Orchestra in C minor, Op 43
1 Adagio
2 Moderato
3 Allegro - Cadenza
4 Allegro
Henri Dutilleux (1916-2013):
'Tout un monde lointain ...' - Concerto for cello and orchestra
5 Énigme: Très libre et flexible -
Edgar Moreau, with the WDR Sinfonieorchester and conductor Andris Poga, performs two contrasting concertante cello works from the mid-twentieth century: Mieczysław Weinberg's Concerto in C minor and Henri Dutilleux’s Tout un monde lointain ... Both concertos were premiered by the great Mstislav Rostropovich in 1957 and 1970 respectively, a performer with whom Moreau has a great affinity: in 2014, aged just twenty, he won the Young Soloist Prize in the Rostropovich Cello Competition.
