American-born pianist, puppeteer and puppet builder Norman Shetler was born in Iowa on 16 June 1931. After army service, he studied piano in Vienna (1955-59) and specialised in accompanying singers.
He spent most of his life in Austria, teaching piano and accompaniment at Würzburg School of Music and Drama (1983-91) and later at the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts.
Later he began making and working with puppets and toured his Musical Puppet Cabaret show widely.
Norman Shetler died in Vienna on 25 June 2024, aged ninety-three.
