Austrian soprano/mezzo Gabriele Sima was born in Innsbruck on 25 February 1955 and grew up in Salzburg. She studied at Universität Mozarteum Salzburg and at Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien, and made her professional opera debut in 1979.
She was a member of the Vienna State Opera young artist programme (1979-82) and then until 1988 she was a resident artist. From 1988 she was a principal artist at Zurich Opera.
Her roles included Johanna in Friedrich Cerha's Baal and the Nurse in Luciano Berio's Un re in ascolto.
Gabriele Sima died in Vienna on 27 April 2016, aged sixty-one.
