American record label Mode Records, a small independent company based in New York City, was founded in 1984 by Brian Brandt, following a chance encounter with John Cage, to release recordings of that composer's music, and its more than fifty volumes of Cage's music is the largest collection of the composer's music on one label.
The company produces recordings of contemporary classical, jazz and avant-garde music, and is also committed to releases featuring younger composers. It has produced over three hundred recordings.
