Johann Christian Heinrich Rinck
The prolific German composer and organist Johann Christian Heinrich Rinck was born in Elgersburg on 18 February 1770. Following early lessons with his father, he was a student of Johann Christian Kittel in Erfurt.
Rinck's appointments included those of organist at Giessen, Kantor of the music school in Darmstadt and of court organist in Darmstadt, in which city he died on 7 August 1846.
His organ music, for which he is best known, includes the 'Practical Organ School' and a set of variations on Ah! vous dirai-je Maman. There are also piano works, chamber compositions and music for the church.
