Filipino composer, conductor, organist and teacher Lucio Diestro San Pedro Sr (also known as LDSP) was born at Angono in Rizal province on 11 February 1913. When his grandfather died, he began his musical career as organist at the local church. He studied in the Netherlands and in the USA at Juilliard.
He wrote wide ranging music for choirs, orchestras, chamber groups, solo voice and particularly for wind bands, He was also conductor of various bands in the Philippines, and is particularly remembered for his contributions to the development of band music in the Philippines.
He taught at most of the music conservatories in Manila, and also at Diliman in Quezon City, retiring in 1978.
Lucio San Pedro died from cardiac arrest at Angono in Rizal province on 31 March 2002, aged eighty-nine.
