Czech conductor Libor Pešek was born in Prague on 22 June 1933 and studied cello, conducting, piano and trombone at the city's Academy of Musical Arts.
He was chief conductor of the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra (1981-2), conductor-in-residence of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra (1982-1990), music director of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra (1987-1998) and chief conductor of the Czech National Symphony Orchestra (2007-2019). He was known particularly for his interpretations of Czech music.
Libor Pešek died on 23 October 2022, aged eighty-nine.
