Werner Hink

Austrian violinist Werner Hink was born in Vienna on 18 March 1943, and began playing violin at the age of six. He studied with Luise Bilek at the Vienna Conservatory and with Franz Samohil at the Vienna Academy of Music.

He joined the Vienna State Opera Orchestra in 1964, joined the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in 1965 and was concertmaster of the Vienna Philharmonic (1974-2008). He founded and led the Vienna String Quartet, was leader of the New Vienna Octet, and taught violin at the Vienna Conservatory from 1982. He also taught at the Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo, Japan (1991-2010) and was on the jury of the Fritz Kreisler International Violin Competition.

Werner Hink died on 21 May 2024, aged eighty-one.
