Croatian composer, music critic, musicologist and theorist Nikša Gligo was born on 6 April 1946 in Split, where he studied at the Natko Nodilo Classical High School and Josip Hatze Music School. At Zagreb University he studied comparative literature and English language and literature, and later, musicology at Ljubljana University.
He had an academic career, working in Freiburg, Sarajevo and Zagreb. He was a twentieth century music and Croatian contemporary music expert. He sat on the editorial boards of various music magazines and contributed to the German encyclopaedia Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart.
Nikša Gligo died in Zagreb on 10 February 2024, aged seventy-seven.
