Norwegian saxophonist and composer Jan Garbarek was born in Mysen on 4 March 1947.
Active mostly in the jazz world, he became known to classical audiences in 1994 with his ECM album Officium, which floated saxophone solos over the Hilliard Ensemble's performances of Gregorian Chant. It was followed by several sequels.
