Glenn Gould, the Canadian pianist, was born in Toronto on 25 September 1932 and died, again in Toronto, on 4 October 1982, at the age of fifty. His prowess as a pianist, especially with J S Bach, gave legendary status to his accomplishments early on, and - given the recordings - will probably never fade.
