Carl, son of Arnold Dolmetsch the Swiss musician noted for his pioneering work with old music and instruments, was pre-eminent as a world-touring recorder virtuoso. He further developed general interest in early music and in the Haslemere Festival founded by his father. He was born on 23 August 1911 and died on 11 July 1997, aged 85.
