American music critic and author John Ardoin was born in Alexandria, Louisiana on 8 January 1935.
Known for his knowledge of conductors, opera, orchestras and singers, Ardoin was a music critic at the Dallas Morning News for over three decades. He was also known for his books about Callas and Furtwängler.
John Ardoin died in San José, Costa Rica, on 18 March 2001, aged sixty-six, shortly after retiring from the Dallas Morning News.
