Gabriel Pierné

Composer of the musical legend La croisade des enfants ('The Children's Crusade'), Gabriel Pierné, was born 16 August 1863 at Metz, studying at the Paris Conservatoire and winning (at age 19) the Prix de Rome. He succeeded Franck as organist of Sainte-Clothilde, and was later conductor of the Concerts Colonne. He died at Ploujean, Finistère on 17 July 1937.
