Russian composer Mark Anatolievich Minkov was born in Moscow on 25 November 1944 and studied first with Nikolay Sidelnikov at the Merziyakovki Conservatory School and then with Aram Khachaturian at the Moscow Conservatory.
His compositions include over a hundred film scores and several operas and ballets.
He won a number of awards and prizes, and in 1999 received the Golden Pushkin Medal.
He died on 29 May 2012, aged sixty-seven.
