Known for her wide repertoire and performances of contemporary classical music and British music, she has made more than thirty recordings and appeared in major concert halls, opera houses and festivals in many countries.
She has a duo with cellist Robin Michael and sings with the ensemble Gemini.
She teaches at the Central School of Speech and Drama and at Hull University, which awarded her an honorary Doctor of Music in 2013.
In 2015 she became Chairman of the Association of English Singers and Speakers.
