Finnish composer Kalevi Aho was born in Forssa on 9 March 1949. He studied composition with Einojuhani Rautavaara at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and then with Boris Blacher in Berlin.
Living in Helsinki, he works as a freelance composer, and has received a state scholarship since 1993.
Many of his orchestral compositions have been recorded by the Lahti Symphony Orchestra and Osmo Vänskä.
