Harry van Hoof

Dutch conductor, composer and arranger Henricus Matheus van Hoof was born in Hilversum on 16 March 1943.

Harry van Hoof worked in many different genres. In the classical sphere, he's possibly best known for accompanying the Romanian panpipe player Gheorghe Zamfir on the Music by Candlelight album.

Harry van Hoof was a permanent guest conductor of the Metropole Orchestra for nearly twenty years, and ran his own production company, but was best known as a conductor for accompanying many Dutch contributions to the Eurovision Song Contest. Describing himself as 'very broad-minded' and 'a romantic at heart', he composed many film scores.

Harry van Hoof died in Eindhoven on 1 June 2024, aged eighty-one.
