Karl Böhm

The Austrian conductor Karl Böhm was born on 28 August 1894 in Graz. His earlier years were much preoccupied with opera at, in turn, Graz, Munich, Darmstadt, Hamburg, Dresden, and Vienna. He proved a specialist with the music of Richard Strauss, conducting premières of Die schweigsame Frau in 1935 and Daphne in 1938. He died in Salzburg on 14 August 1981.
